Who’s excited for a little mani Monday post?! As y’all may know from the title of my blog, I love a good manicure. I actually never really painted my nails until college and thanks to a steady hand and lots (and I mean lots) of practice, I’m happy to say I can give myself a mani at home without always having to run to the salon. Summer is officially here and I absolutely love a fun, bright polish on my nails! I recently tried a new long wear polish so keep reading for my review and 10 tips to get pretty nails for summer!
ONE | Use hand cream every night before bed. Cream is more moisturizing than lotion and it’s an easy step to add to your nighttime routine to replenish moisture to your hands and cuticles.
TWO | Get the shine of gel without the heavy price tag with CND™ VINYLUX™ Long Wear Polish. This polish gives you weeklong wear in two easy steps (no base coat needed).
- STEP 1: Apply two thin coats of the all-in-one base and color Rite Aid stores Long Wear Polish.
- STEP 2: Finish with one coat of CND™ VINYLUX™ Long Wear Top Coat for a gel-like finish. (Allow 8.5 minutes for fully dry nails).
THREE | Take a daily multivitamin or a vitamin that specifically helps hair, skin & nails. Biotin is a good one for this!
FOUR | Don’t peel off your polish! I admit, I’m not at the best at this but when you peel, you take small layers of keratin off your nails, making them slightly weaker and thinner and can also make them rough.
FIVE | Wear gloves if you’re washing a lot of dishes or cleaning your bathroom.
SIX | Avoid using acetone polish remover as it can be the most drying to your nail and can cause them to become brittle.
SEVEN | Don’t forget a top coat to make those nails extra shiny!
EIGHT | Use cuticle oil to soften and moisturize your cuticles. This also moisturizes the nail bed and can stimulate growth. I try to use it about 2 times per week.
NINE | Mix it up with a bright nail color. If you’re always into the neutrals or baby pinks, step out of your comfort zone with a turquoise or bright purple polish.
TEN | Limit professional manicures. I love gel nails as much as the next girl, but constantly having gel or SNS on your nails and never giving them time to be “naked” and breathe isn’t great for them. Not to mention the nail techs have to buff & file down so much of your nail, you don’t want to be doing this week after week. I treat myself to gel manicures every 1-2 months.
