Day Trip to Linville Falls


This weekend sure was a fun one! Sometimes it’s good to just get out of town for a change of scenery and that’s exactly what we did on Saturday. Ryan & I, along with our friends Chase & Whitney, headed to the mountains of NC for a little hiking trip. I was excited to partner to partner with Southeast Toyota to test drive the new 2016 Toyota Camry on the trip. I drive a smaller, compact car so it was nice to have something a little more spacious for the weekend. They updated the body style this year and it is super sleek. Some of my other favorite features are the voice recognition, Bluetooth capability, and of course the backup camera.



After grabbing some Starbucks, we made our way up the mountain and decided to stop in Blowing Rock for lunch. I had been to the outlets there, but had never made my way into this cute little town. We ate at the Blowing Rock Brewing Company and it was such a cozy, mountain-esque restaurant. It was pretty cold outside so I had to order the tomato red pepper soup!

Next, we headed up the Blue Ridge Parkway and stopped at an overlook. Okay… maybe like 3 overlooks! Even though I’ve been on the parkway plenty of times, I still can’t get over that view and the mountains were looking quite blue that day. I have to say, the Camry was pretty fun to drive on those winding roads or as Chase said, “cut the turns like a knife!”

We finally made it to our destination of Linville Falls. We packed up the spacious trunk with a cooler, snacks, blankets, and all of our coats because y’all know I like to be prepared. The high for the day was 45 degrees so I thought we would freeze (true southerner over here) but luckily the sunshine was out all day and it actually felt really nice out!

I hadn’t been to Linville Falls since middle school so I was excited to visit again. Luckily, the hike wasn’t too long or strenuous and there were several lookouts where we could see the waterfalls. The fresh air and peaceful surroundings were a nice change from the hustle and bustle of the city.

 
After finishing the hike we built up quite the appetite so it was back to Blowing Rock for dinner. We quickly decided on Bistro Roca based on personal recommendations and Yelp, of course. And y’all… the food was SO good. They had the most amazing mac & cheese I’ve ever had- complete with pork belly, pulled pork, sweet potato salsa, and cilantro. If you make the trip to Blowing Rock, you HAVE to check this place out and order the puerco mac & cheese. You’ll thank me later.
I love Charlotte for many reasons, but one of them has to be our central location. We’re just a few hours from the beach and the mountains which makes day trips like this super do-able. We had a great day full of laughs and good food and I can’t wait ’til our next adventure!

    I was LOVING your pictures this weekend!! Looks like such an awesome trip and with a fun little car, even better! Now excuse me while I go drool over all of that food because yummmm!
