5 Tips for Traveling With Jewelry

In the famous words of Marilyn Monroe, “diamonds are a girl’s best friend.” It’s no secret that us girls love our accessories and today I’m sharing a few tips on how to keep all of your jewelry safe while traveling. With the holidays coming up, you don’t want any sticky bandits getting a hold of your goods so make sure to protect yourself and your valuables when you’re on the go.

Let me take y’all back to a time when I was visiting Elon University for their PA school open house. It was a productive day and before making the hour drive back home, I stopped by the restroom. Fast forward a few days later when I finally realized that something was missing… my David Yurman ring!! You can only imagine my state of panic. This gemstone ring with pavé diamonds was a Christmas gift from my mom and one of my nicest pieces of jewelry. I didn’t wear it daily but I still don’t know how I didn’t notice sooner. I ended up calling Elon and luckily someone saw it in the bathroom and turned it in. The school was nice enough to mail it back to me and I learned my lesson. Don’t ever take your ring off when washing your hands!! And be more mindful of your valuables. Here are 5 tips to keep your jewelry safe while traveling.
 



1. STAY ORGANIZED

Don’t just throw things in a bag because we all know things shift and move during travel. I love this jewelry case because it has a larger, zippered section for larger items like necklaces and watches but also has a separate area on the bottom for smaller pieces. I like that the bottom section is hard so your jewelry won’t get bent or misshapen and there are designated spots for rings and earrings. And it looks even cuter with a monogram, don’t you think?!

2. KEEP YOUR JEWELRY WITH YOU
Don’t ever put your jewelry in checked luggage. I always keep it on me either in my tote or carry-on bag. Not only do I know it’s safe with me, but there is less of a chance of it getting lost, bent or damaged along the way. Try to wear your valuable pieces but then again don’t be too flashy.
 

3. INSURE YOUR MOST VALUABLE PIECES

Sure, our engagement and wedding rings might be insured (and if they’re not- stop reading right now and get on that!) but what about all the other valuable pieces?? If you’re not wearing those expensive pieces out, make sure to store them inside the in-room safe inside your hotel. And if you’re still feeling weary about the safe, make sure to hide your jewelry in a super inconspicuous place like a dirty sock or hidden in an old toiletry bottle.
5. IF YOU DON’T NEED IT, LEAVE IT

Most of us (especially us bloggers) like to travel with a little bling but if you can go a few days without those expensive pieces, leave them at home. Drop them off at the jeweler to get cleaned, inspected or appraised. That way, they’ll be good as new when you get back from your trip!

    I love that organizer you have!! I actually left a necklace in a safe in Mexico and thankfully the hotel was able to send it back to me after I thoroughly described it lol!

    That jewelry case/organizer is wonderful! I try to bring as little jewelry as possible on trips with me for so many of these reasons. I plan out my outfits and bring just those pieces I want to wear. Thanks for this post!

    That traveling case for your jewelry is awesome (& yes, the monogram makes it even cuter!) I try to travel with the least amount of jewelry possible since I'm already usually taking pricey things on trips with me… like my laptop, camera, lenses, etc. There's already too much to worry about that I try not to add jewelry to that list, too!

    I love that case, the monogram makes me love it even more! For the longest time after I got engaged I kept putting off insuring my engagement ring, but I finally did it once we got our bands. Jewelers Mutual is super easy to use and not expensive!
