Hey y’all! Our new home build is well underway and we recently got an expected move-in date… October 25th!! Just a tad bit later than we were hoping but that’s construction and we definitely want them to take their time on the final details. Today I wanted to share a sneak peek of some design elements of our house starting with our kitchen design board- this will definitely be one of the most used areas of the house!
First things first, we wanted a big island. Ryan & I love to entertain and it never fails that everyone gathers around our kitchen island because that is usually where the food and drinks are! Ours is 10 feet long which should be enough for 4 barstools and plenty of eating space. We wanted a contrasting color to give the room a little depth and after scouring the web, we decided on Benjamin Moore Cheating Heart, a deep charcoal/navy. That being said, you know I still love things to be bright and airy so our back cabinets, range hood and breakfast bench will all be painted Benjamin Moore Paper White. In fact, this color will be used throughout our house for the walls and trim. Our scullery (which will be a prep area with sink, cabinets and wine fridge) will also have the dark cabinetry.
Another must-have for our kitchen was brass hardware to add some warmth. The cabinet hardware, faucet, and pendant lanterns will all be brass. I’m also very excited for our large, white farmhouse sink!! We’re planning to mix some traditional elements like the brass lanterns and Carrara marble backsplash with some contemporary touches in the faucet and hardware.
As far as countertops we decided to go with quartz. I researched ALL the information on marble and while it may be the most beautiful, there is no way it would work in our kitchen and we ultimately wanted something with less maintenance. For our island, we’re doing a “marble-look” quartz which is gorgeous and using plain white quartz on the perimeter which will be up against the real marble backsplash. The cabinet color/countertop/backsplash decision has been one of THE hardest of this whole process and I’m praying it all looks good together!!
What do you guys think of this kitchen design board? I’m sharing few sources down below as well as some kitchen inspiration photos and will be back with another construction update very soon!
Ps. I also want to wish a very happy birthday to my sweet husband- can’t wait to celebrate at dinner tonight!
