Friday Five: It's April!

/ONE/
April Fools Day recap!  So my class wanted to find a way to prank our faculty so we decided to call a fake meeting to discuss a “serious” matter.  One of my classmates, Suzzette, deserved an Oscar for her performance when she said she “wouldn’t be returning next semester” and “her past caught up with her” and she wanted to tell us “before the story came out.”  And she kept a straight face the whole time.  At that point, the song came on and Gaylord the Camel even made an appearance!  I know we’re a little late on the trend, but it was so fun!  Have a look:

My class participated in the Buies Creek Elementary health fair on Wednesday.  We got to spend the beautiful day outside with the kiddos and taught them about sunscreen, healthy eating, self-defense, exercise, germs, and even had some dancing!  I was in the exercise group and it was fun to move around with the kids & teach them the importance of exercise & staying healthy. 
/THREE/
 Mixer on my mind.  Tonight is the big night I have been planning for months.  Party planning is no joke & is a LOT of hard work.  Props to anyone who plans & decorates their own wedding.  I’m super excited & wish me luck that everything goes well!
/FOUR/
Mama Rosemary sent Sarah a care package & she always throws in a little something for Jeff & I.  We got some cookies (yum!) and cute little Easter decorations.
/FIVE/
Who out there watches Chrisley Knows Best?  A friend told me about it last week and it happened to come on the other night while I was crafting… New obsession! I’m such a sucker for “reality” tv.  The show is about their lavish life in Atlanta and the dad likes to keep the kids on a very tight leash… he is hilarious!

Friday Five

I fell in love as soon as I saw it.  Sarah & I were sitting in class and I stumbled upon a Kate Spade email introducing their Italia collection.  Well Sarah loves anything & everything Italian so we browsed online, then took a trip to the mall & browsed some more.  We actually both ended up getting [almost] matching bags (photos to come).  I also picked up these pants for class from LOFT.  They are navy eyelet and I love how they actually fall at my ankles like they’re supposed to without hemming, thank God for petite sizing!  Here is my new baby, an early birthday present from my momma!

Clinical skill of the week: Bandaging!  This week’s lab consisted of several stations of office procedures such as draining abscesses (joy), ingrown toenails/nail infections, punch biopsies, digital blocks (numbing a finger), and bandaging.  As PAs, we will do a lot of cool procedures, but some are…. how do I say this… more appealing than others.  For example, I don’t do feet.  Yes, I know I will come across this in my career (depending on what field I go in), but everybody has that ONE thing that just grosses them out… and it’s okay.

On Monday, a few of us half of our class headed to Fuquay because birthday celebrations were in order.  We had quite the feast at Bellini with the birthday girls, Alexa & Krista.  I have to say, the restaurants around these parts are sometimes lacking, but this place was amazing!  The have a 2 for $40 deal on Mondays which includes wine, salad, entrée, & dessert.  That makes for one full belly… and leftovers for the next day!  The seafood linguine was delicious and I’m already craving more tiramisu.  We were there until 11pm on a school night and had a blast as always!

Healthy eating.  I haven’t been working out as much as I should be (still doing 3-ish days a week) but i HAVE been eating a lot more salads lately.  Salads can be a pain to make with all the cooking/cutting/preparation, but I love them when they have lots of yummy toppings.  I’m no top chef, but Sarah did say that I make a pretty salad!  This shrimp salad always hits the spot.

I’m officially having Ryan withdrawals.. I haven’t seen him in almost 3 weeks!  After today’s ENT OSCE, I’ll be heading back to Charlotte for the weekend to spend some with my fave guy 🙂  I’m also excited to see my friend Lindsay who will be in town from ATL.  Cheers to the weekend!

Camels & Prints

In honor of humpday and the Campbell Camels, I thought I would share with you this adorable plate from C. Wonder.  It’s so bright & cheery- I love the ikat print and the pop of blue & green.  You could use it as a decorative plate or for fun appetizers or treats when hosting a party.

Happy Spring!

/ ONE /

One day late but… it’s officially Spring!!  I don’t know about y’all, but I’m so over winter, cold weather, rain, etc. etc.   Spring is my birthday season, the time to bust out bright clothes, and start doing more outdoor activities.  Sometimes it stinks being cooped up inside a classroom all day, so it was really nice to sit outside yesterday & study in this gorgeous weather.  My spring semester is almost over and one month from today I’ll actually be starting my summer/3rd semester.  Crazy how time flies!

Speaking of studying outside, I snapped this funny pic yesterday while Sarah & I were soaking up some Vitamin D.  That would also be my bear Kittles who is sporting the shades.  I see lots of outdoor studying in our future…

I was lucky enough to get a visit from Logan this week and finally got to introduce her to the roomies and show her my cute little house.  She is known as the “cupcake queen” to all of my friends and of course she came bearing gifts from one of our favorites in Charlotte, Polka Dot Bake Shop.  You’re the best Log!


/ FOUR /

School has definitely been keeping me busy lately.  Between studying, challenge bowl meetings, and planning a mixer for all the health programs, a girl can be left with little free time- but I guess that’s just a part of PA school.  Honestly, I feel like I have gotten way better with time management this past year and am truly amazed at how much we learn in the amount of time that we learn it.  We just had an exam this morning and finished up our neurology unit (which I really liked!).  Now we’re moving on to ENT (ears, nose, throat).  Yesterday was all about the ears, and we even got to watch this lovely video of someone pulling out a [live] bug out of someone’s ear.  (Sorry for the visual guys…  Don’t forget to clean our your ears!)


/ FIVE /

Pretty excited about my new toy!  Everyone in our class got an iPad mini and we will be using these on clinical rotations starting in the fall (good to know tuition is going to something fun).  We’ll be keeping track of different cases that we see & different procedures we do.  But until then it will be used for fun stuff!   It’s really nice to be able to study/stalk Pinterest without holding a computer on my lap.  Yay for technology 🙂

Don’t Get Pinched!

Happy St. Patty’s day friends!  I hope everyone remembered to wear their green today.  I had my outfit planned & everything and then I remembered… it was scrub day.  Even though I’m not Irish (Russian actually) and didn’t go all out on the green beer this year, I still love to celebrate this holiday.  Fun fact- green is my favorite color!  Here are some of my favorite green & gold picks.  I own a pair of mint skinnys and they are absolutely perfect for spring. And aren’t these gold TB flats the cutest?

I’ll also take this moment to do a little throwback from the past 3 St. Patty’s bar crawls in Charlotte.  So sad that I had to miss it this year, but I almost felt like I was there with all of the funny snapchats I was getting from my girls and Ryan.

Only 3 more days until the [official] start of spring!  This weekend I did some spring cleaning & put away all of my winter things, so naturally that means I need to fill my closet with new spring goodies!  That being said, yesterday’s rain made it the perfect day for a trip to the mall with the roomies.  I always have a blast shopping with them.. we definitely did some damage 🙂

SB in Naples, FL

So I have been a little M.I.A. but that’s what happens when you’re on vacation.  I’m back in the classroom again (boo) but on a positive note, only 1 month until my birthday!! [Insert happy dance here].  I’m linking up with Renee @ Sassy Wife Classy Life for Tuesday Tea!  Here is a little recap of my little getaway to Florida for spring break!

I was very excited to spend some time on the beach.  This was my first time to Naples and I must say it’s a beautiful place- very green & well kept.  There is definitely an older population around these parts but if you retire down there, you’ve got it made!  We got to spend some QT with Ryan’s parents and just r e l a x.

The first night we explored 5th Avenue, the main street in Naples full of cute little shops and tons of restaurants.  Afterwards we went to dinner at Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion and I have to say…. it was one of THE best meals I’ve ever had… seriously.  If you know me, you know I love food & how much joy it brings me.  The best was the Misoyaki Butterfish, like no other fish I’ve had.  If you ever come across this restaurant, YOU MUST GO!

We did have some rain one day but that made for a perfect shopping day… we didn’t have to feel guilty for missing out on the beach.  We went to some outlets & to the Waterside Shops- a very picturesque high-end outdoor mall.  I have an idea shopping in this place could get pretty dangerous.

I can’t mention my love of food without mentioning my great love for seafood… the fishier the better!  We were lucky enough to have Wayne cook us some king crab for dinner one night and boy was it delicious.  On our last night we went out to Chops and ate outside, had more seafood, & drank wine.

I had a great week off but now it’s back to reality- 8 a.m. mornings, large daily coffees (and teas of course), & two tests coming right up! At least the weather in The Creek was absolutely gorgeous yesterday, I was even sporting a tank top & shorts!  I hope y’all have a terrific Tuesday & great rest of the week… hopefully much more sunshine is on the way 🙂
