Although spring is officially 17 days away, I think it’s about time to put away the dark colors and bring out the brights! I have put together some of my favorite spring accessories that are sure to brighten anyone’s day. The Tory Burch flats are pretty high on my birthday list. I have a lot of neutral shoes, but I love them because they go with everything! Also, this Kate Spade clutch is to die for! I love the watercolor pattern and the bow detail- it would really add a splash of color to a plain outfit.
Has anyone got a head start on their spring shopping yet? Since I’m on break (and it’s rainy out) I think a trip to the mall is in order! Have a great Monday 🙂

Happy February!
So I am a little behind on blogging, I swear time just gets away from me. Our stressful week is pretty much over so tonight I’m getting to sit on my butt and just relax, catch up on shows, etc. etc. Lately we have been learning about the GI system and just had our final test on it today in Clin Med (and thank God that’s over). As much as I love learning about bowel habits, I just don’t think this area is my forte.
We did have a really fun surgery lab this week… I definitely look forward to this class the most. We had four stations set up and our groups rotated to learn about inserting IVs, giving injections, intubating, and inserting NG tubes. My favorite was the intubation station- it’s definitely hard but it was cool to see the lungs inflate! The trainer models even made clicking noises if you “broke any teeth” while trying to get to the trachea, but luckily I avoided them pretty well.
Creepy hand/Halloween prop haha.. how we learn to put in IVs |

Weekend Recap
I headed to Raleigh with the roomies and finally got to see Rachael & Freddy’s new place! We ate, had a little pre-party, then went out downtown to Fayetteville Street for Brittany’s 25th birthday (aka the Brittany Bowl). I hardly go out anymore so needless to say, Sunday was a little rough. But it was so nice to see my friends and get away from the school environment for a bit.
While we were in the area, Sarah, Jeff & I decided to look at some apartments. We won’t be moving until July (I’m way early, I know) but I just wanted to get a feel for some areas and see what’s available out there. We did find one apartment that we liked- clean, nice amenities, good price- except for one little detail. It was a 3br/3ba loft and surely enough it had half of a wall and no door. Jeff said nooooo way. This is what it looked like:
Surg 101
Today we got to suture! First we got some instruction and practiced on our TruSkin (this jelly-like pad of fake skin/fat). Our first mission: single interrupted stitches. After than we headed to the anatomy lab to pay a visit to our old friends, the cadavers. We practiced some more (on real skin this time), but it was a little more difficult because their skin is obviously more tough & not very pliable. It was fun though- I’m definitely liking surgery lab so far!
Briana & I tying our first knots! |
We have 3 tests this week so from now on I will be busy reviewing diabetes/thyroid/pituitary/adrenal/etc. meds & everything else there is to know. At least I can look forward to Charlotte this weekend- restaurant week, Bobcats game, and seeing my main squeeze!
2014
Semester #2 is now in session. The days leading up to school I was in denial about going back… I mean seriously, who starts school on January 2nd? Having a super-long break was nice, but I guess it makes it all the harder to get back in the swing of things. The holidays were great & I couldn’t have asked for better time spent with family & friends. I have to give a shout out to two of my favorites, Katie & Matt, and wish them a big congratulations on their holiday engagement.. so happy for those two! Not too much has happened in the past few weeks but it’s been great to see my classmates again, and of course my fabulous roomies!
This semester I will be taking Clinical Medicine 2, Pharm 2, Lab Med, Behavioral Med, Evidence-Based Medicine, and Surgery (pretty excited to learn some procedures here). My new years resolution is that these next two semesters go as smoothly as the first. I am really trying to soak in this time where I can just hang out before all the tests start to take over our lives again.
Things I’m looking forward to in the next few months…
1. CLT Restaurant Week
2. Valentine’s Day/ Logan’s birthday weekend
3. Spring Break
4. My Birthday!
5. Trip to Boston in May
This was a pretty lazy weekend but at least Ryan came to visit! Tomorrow night we’ll be hosting our 2nd Bachelor viewing party… Juan Pablo might be my favorite so far! If you asked me top 3 finalists right now, I’d probably go with Andi (the prosecutor), Nikki (the nurse), and Renee (the mommy). But honestly who knows. I’m sure this will be “THE most dramatic season yet,” as Chris Harrison always says. I’m still trying to figure out how I’m going to devote 2 hours a week to this show… I’ll let you know how that goes!
