Wedding Weekending

Happy Monday, friends! I got back in Raleigh on Thursday and was here for less than a day until it was off to Plattsburgh, NY for Ryan’s sister’s wedding. After two planes, a car, and a ferry, I got in Friday after midnight (I guess that’s technically Saturday!). The next morning we all woke up, had a yummy breakfast, and got ready for the wedding festivities. The wedding party and parents came over for photos and Jessica & Ryan had their first look.
I used to think a first look would take away from that breathtaking moment when the bride walks down the aisle and I thought that should be the first time the groom sees her. That tradition actually came from the olden days of arranged marriages when the groom wouldn’t meet his bride until the actual ceremony, so there would be no turning back. Not the best tradition, huh? Then you get to thinking about logistics. Getting the first look and wedding party photos done before the ceremony allows for less time between the vows and the reception. Guests don’t want to wait hours for you to arrive and you don’t want to feel rushed taking photos, so it’s really a win-win. Anyway… That’s my spiel on that. I would love to see how you married ladies liked the first look or why you chose not do it. And now for a few wedding photos!

I did a lot of traveling just to be there for a day and a half, but the wedding was beautiful and it was so great to meet the rest of Ryan’s extended family. Jessica and (her) Ryan looked so incredibly happy and it was exciting to share that special day with them! 

Lake Champlain… ain’t it gorgeous? For some reason, Ryan was up at 7:30 am yesterday and wanted to get some shots of the sunrise.
In other news, today I start rotation #2… the ER!! Today I’ll just be doing orientation, meeting my preceptor, getting a badge, etc. so I won’t be seeing any patients until tomorrow. Since I’ve been gone for a month and traveled this weekend, it will be nice to have the rest of the day to grocery shop, get organized, and finish unpacking my life! Hopefully y’all had a great weekend as well and happy 2nd day of fall!!

Top 10 Favorites for Fall





Fall is upon us!!! Okay, technically it’s 2 days away but still. This is my favorite season ever and I want to pack in as many fun fall activities as I can this year. The NC temps are slowly cooling and there’s nothing that gets me more excited than fall fashion. Here are 10 of my must-haves for the season:







1 // Vests


I finally got my hands on this vest and am patiently waiting for cooler temps to bust it out! Vests are everywhere right now (I especially love the fur ones) and are great for providing that extra layer of warmth… and are super cute to boot!






2 // Booties


My obsession keeps growing. I love booties (especially suede ones) because they’re just so easy. You can easily pair them with jeans, dresses, and skirts and you don’t have to worry about stuffing jeans in them (although I still love my riding boots… #shoeaddict). 


3 // Coated Denim


I got my first pair of coated skinnies last year and they were seriously the best gift ever. They are black, but instantly add a little something extra to your outfit and look oh so sleek. I think these give you the look of leather leggings, but are way more comfortable and breathable.


4 // Printed Scarves


I confess, most of my scarves are plain and I’m hoping to change that this season. It’s all about mixing prints these days and whether your prefer plaid or houndstooth, a fun scarf can add a pop of color to any outfit.





5 // Quilted Accessories


 A quilted texture adds a little bit of class to your wardrobe. Whether it’s a fall jacket or a pair of boots, the quilted look is here to stay. Ps. I would kill for those Tory Burch riding boots… they are seriously perfect!





6 // Leopard Loafers


If you follow @thebloggercloset on IG, you may remember me saying “every girl should own a pair of leopard loafers“… and I mean it! They were one of my favorite purchases last year and I have gotten so much wear out of them- I can pair them with pretty much anything.  Plus, we all know leopard is a neutral.



7 // Cozy Cardigans


Oversized sweaters are always in for fall. What’s easier than throwing one of these over a pair of leggings and running out the door? My favorite part is fall staples like this really allow you to be comfortable and look chic at the same time. 






8 // Plaid Button-Downs


I just got my first plaid shirt y’all! Yea, I know I’m behind the times. This is a must when you go apple picking or to the state fair… or any fall for that matter. Extra points for flannel!




9 // Lots of Leather


Back and more popular than ever, leather details are everywhere. Whether your sport a dress with leather details like I did here or a classic black leather jacket, you can’t go wrong. I’m hoping to add some more leather pieces to my wardrobe ASAP!


10 // Stripes


The easiest of all the patterns, you can mix stripes with just about anything (even plaid if you’re super brave… but I’ll pass). They look great with statement necklaces or under vests and come in so many variations, it’s hard to choose which one!

I hope y’all have a fabulous Friday! I’m officially back in Raleigh reunited with the roomies! Today I get to go back to school for our end-of-rotation day and see all my classmates that I haven’t seen in a month. After that, it’s off to the airport to catch a plane to NY for Ryan’s sister’s wedding. TGIF 🙂

I wore this outfit for a date night with Ryan & two of our friends on Friday and who doesn’t love a little black dress? They’re easy, classic, and the best thing is everything goes with black. You can pretty much pick out any accessory you want and just run with it. This one gets extra stars for the snakeskin leather peplum detailing on the sides- love it! I wanted to get extra fancy for this date, so I decided to pair it with my Gorjana earrings, gold Kate Spade clutch, and simple black pumps.
I was feeling a little sick this day but luckily I had appointments scheduled for my hair & makeup so I had other people to get me all ready, which was a-okay by me! The lovely Janine at Salon on Selwyn did my hair- I went a tad darker for fall and am hoping eventually to get back to my natural color. I went to Sephora for my makeup and I definitely felt a little more glam than usual, loved the hot pink lip! My eyebrows were a bit too much, but overall she did a great job. Ps. There was a serious storm about to hit before dinner which is why the photos are so dark.

Urgent Care Update

This is the last week of my first clinical rotation in PA school and I can’t believe how the time has flown! The crazy thing about these 5 week rotations is that as soon as you get comfortable at your location, it’s time to move on. My preceptor has been the absolute best and I couldn’t have asked for a better start! Just being around patients every day has made me so much more comfortable and hopefully after 15 straight months of this I’ll be prepared to start working on my own. I just have to remember what everyone always tell me- it’s okay if you don’t know everything, just know where to look it up.  





Here are some highlights of my month working at urgent care:





I have become quite the pro at sports physicals. I didn’t know people came to urgent care for this, but apparently they do. I found a heart murmur on a kid while doing one of these.





I’m learning how to write prescriptions. Most are sent over electronically or printed out, but it’s still kind of fun to write them out for practice.





We’ve seen quite a few x-rays. Most are for stubbed toes or sprained ankles to make sure nothing worse is going on. I did see my first fracture the other day, a boy broke his tibia while playing basketball and you didn’t need any medical experience to see what was wrong with the picture… it was bad!





I’ve got to play with pee for urinalyses and cultures… UTIs are super common. We’ve also seen a little bit of strep and one case of mono.





As far as procedures, I haven’t got to suture anyone (I’ll get plenty of that in the ER) but I have removed some stitches. I gave a guy 3 staples in his head… that was pretty cool! One of my favorite things was doing my first I&D… that would be incision & drainage… of an abscess. Either this stuff completely grosses you out OR if you’re like my friends, you want to know all the gory details. 





I really like giving shots, it’s pretty fun. This may not be part of the PA’s daily job,  but we need to learn how to do it in case our help is ever needed. I’ve given a flu shot, TB skin tests, and some shots in the booty (ouch!).





I hope everyone had a great weekend- I was sick and worked but today I’m feeling much much better, and now I’m off to work another 12-hour shift. Ps. We’re halfway through September… say what?!?!

Morning y’all! Yay for Friday but boo for feeling like I’m getting sick. My throat started hurting last night and I feel like poo today and have like 13987 things to get done.. ahhh! I’m around sick people all day so I knew this was bound to happen sooner or later. So… I’m off to get some Emergen-C to get this immune system going strong and I leave you with some of my Friday favorites!

I love me some Enrique Iglesias, even back from the “Bailamos” days. When it comes to music, I like anything that I can dance to (even in the car) and is happy and upbeat. If the song is sad or depressing, I’m gonna change the station. 







Favorite Mail Day // Shutterfly











I’m sure you are all familiar with Shutterfly and I just wanted to share the cutest little mix & match stationery set I just received. This company is great for prints, photo books, cool gifts with your face splattered all over them, etc. If you haven’t already signed up for their emails… do it! They always send out coupons for free stuff like luggage tags, address labels (a personal favorite, love those things), poster prints, and cards. All I had to pay for these cute cards was shipping. I customized half of my cards with my monogram and half with “thank you” so I’ll always be prepared!

I spotted these at Nordstrom the other day and they seriously need a home in my closet… like right now. They are the perfect dressed up bootie for fall and I can already imagine so many outfits I could wear them with.
