Congratulations friends, you’ve made it halfway through the work week! I’m back today with some more honeymoon highlights (read part 1 here), this time talking about what we did off of the resort. Ryan & I love to be adventurous, but this trip was
mostly for some good ‘ol rest & relaxation. However, we could never simply sit on a beach
for a week straight so we broke up the week with some exploring.
mostly for some good ‘ol rest & relaxation. However, we could never simply sit on a beach
for a week straight so we broke up the week with some exploring.
Our guide Simon took us on all our tours and it was great because we beat the large crowds that were coming from the northern resorts and cruise ships. We also felt like we got a more personalized experience because we were with one other couple and not a bus full of people. We were picked up from our resort, rode into the town of Soufrière, and then it was time for our day of adventure.
The one thing you HAVE to do when in St. Lucia is visit the sulphur springs aka the “mud baths.” Contrary to what I imagined, you aren’t sitting in a “bath” of mud. Basically, you start in the hot spring which is about 100 degrees then you get out and have someone rub the mud all over you. Like the mud face masks that we girls love to use, the mud hardens and when washed off, it leaves your skin feeling SO incredibly soft. I couldn’t stop touching it! Soufriere actually means “sulphur in the air” and was named when the town was practically destroyed by the volcano eruption. Not to worry, the volcano is now dormant but creates some seriously hot water full of skin-enhancing minerals.
Our next highlight was swimming in the Toraille waterfall. There is no hike required and it is another semi-touristy destination, but it was pretty cool to swim in the falls- I felt like I was on The Bachelor! After that, it was off to the mineral baths which were more secluded than the touristy waterfall. After a little hike, we relaxed in the baths that were truly in the middle of the jungle. It was amazing!
Next, we dried off and made our way to the Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens. We walked around and took in the sights of the Diamond waterfall and many exotic plants and flowers, so beautiful and unique. They call this one “sexy pink.”
We finished off the morning with lunch in Soufrière where Simon’s wife made us a home cooked Creole lunch and then popped over to the local supermarket to pick up some essentials like Piton beer and plantain chips. Other than that, we didn’t really explore the town too much but were so happy we did the tour.
One night we ventured off the resort for dinner to Toucan at Hotel Chocolat. Much like it sounds, this hotel is on a cocoa plantation and the menu at the restaurant is centered around all things cocoa. The drinks were especially delicious and the sticky toffee pudding for dessert… so good! We enjoyed all of this with a great view of Petit Piton.
On our second to last night, we went on a sunset cruise. I like the chance to get on a boat whenever I can and it’s always a great way to see the island from a distance. This light & airy jumpsuit was perfect to wear on the catamaran- I always opt for a fun romper/jumpsuit/pants over a dress when it comes to a windy boat. It was a bit cloudy that night so the sunset wasn’t too dramatic but it was still a great time!
After we checked out of Sugar Beach on Saturday, we decided to hike the Tet Paul Nature Trail. Originally, we had these grand plans of hiking Gros Piton, but after discovering that it was a 2-hour hike each way we were like, no thanks! We met some other couples who were sore from their climb and we just didn’t want to be tired or achy on our honeymoon. Luckily, Simon told us about the nature trail and it was the perfect alternative with some amazing views. It was a pretty easy hike that took about 45 minutes and we got to enjoy some panoramic views of both Pitons and the south of the island.
For spending a week in St. Lucia, I think we did a good of amount of activities without overdoing it. Lots of relaxation with a little exploring- it was perfect! Since we tried to limit our outings, I already have a list of activities for next time such as a helicopter tour, hiking Gros Piton, and couples massages at the Rainforest Spa at Sugar Beach. And I’ve never tried diving (not yet at least), but I do know St. Lucia has some of the best diving sites in the Caribbean.
If y’all have any specific questions about the island or even any fun adventures that you recommend, please let me know! Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous day 🙂

Sounds like the perfect balance between relaxing and being adventurous! I know for Riviera Maya we are looking to hopefully relax majority of the time, but get in some touristy things as well! Love that jumpsuit, sounds perfect for a boat!
