As you can tell, Ryan and I love our share of activities and kept ourselves busy exploring the island. Let’s jump right in to part 2 of the vacay recap! Read part 1 here.
On Tuesday, we went to Simpson Bay for breakfast at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club which was right by the big drawbridge. We took in a great view along with some great food- I had some baked pineapple and coconut pancakes that were to die for! I’m telling y’all, the food on this island did not disappoint.
We spent the morning at our resort and made our way up to Orient Beach that afternoon. This is the famous nude beach on the French side and part of the clothing-optional resort. We were walking up to the beach and suddenly I saw naked bodies everywhere! A topless beach may be one thing, but fully nude (mostly older) people was an interesting sight. And let me just add that Ryan & I happily kept our swimsuits on… we just wanted to experience the beach!
After that, we drover over to Grand Case, another town on the northern French side. The harbor with all the boats was very picturesque as the sun was setting (which happens at 7pm by the way). The streets are lined with cute little restaurants and we went off a friend’s recommendation at ate at L’auberge Gourmande. We had so much seafood on this trip- here we enjoyed the crab-stuffed sea bass. The only thing I didn’t like about the island was that you had to pay for water. The tap water is safe, unlike some other Caribbean islands, but they still always served it in a bottle. The one below was a whopping $6!
On our last night, Ryan and I went on a sunset dinner cruise and it was a blast!! The boat left from Simpson Bay and took us to the western part of the island for the best views of the sunset. The buffet was delicious and the rum punch was flowing, which led to lots of dancing!
On the last day we split our time between the beach, pool, and had lunch in Phillipsburg before we headed to the airport. I was very sad to leave but so thankful for all the memories I made with my fiancé… the engagement-moon was a success!
