Our Engagement Story: Part 1

I’m happy overjoyed to announce that I am officially engaged to my sweet Ryan- the love of my life and partner-in-crime!!! If you follow me on Instagram, you already knew my announcement but now come all the fun details. I’m still in somewhat of a shock because I seriously can’t believe that I’m getting married. Of course I’ve always dreamt of this day and knew it would be coming soon, but now it’s real and I couldn’t be more thrilled! I hate to split up the post into two parts, but I didn’t want it to be forever long (but it is anyway because I got a little camera happy…oops). 

Ryan & I started Thanksgiving morning with a little game of football (I watched while eating donuts and drinking coffee, of course) and then made the drive to my hometown of Marion, NC. We had a great Thanksgiving lunch at my grandma’s house and then went to hang out with my parents and see some of my friends from high school. This was when Ryan asked for my dad’s blessing… sneaky sneaky! That evening we went to watch Mockingjay: Part 1 and then woke up to a wonderful breakfast cooked by my grandma before we hit the road.


I knew we were going somewhere but it was a surprise. However, this was nothing unusual because Ryan is pretty much the king of surprises (one of the many things I love about him!). Once we started heading down a certain road in Asheville I knew that we were headed to the Grove Park Inn and I got super excited. Last year, I surprised Ryan with a visit for our 2-year anniversary and it was absolutely amazing! (You can read more about that trip here). I’m perfectly okay with keeping this yearly tradition going!


I absolutely love the GPI, especially around the holidays! No visit is complete without checking out the edible works of art that are displayed every year for the National Gingerbread House Competition. But our favorite part of the hotel would have to be the spa. When we checked in, Ryan told me that he booked a massage for me and got spa passes so we could relax all day. He’s totally a keeper, right?! The weather was perfect and relax we did.

After our relaxing day, we got ready for a casual dinner at one of the hotel’s many restaurants, Edison. We had nachos and fancy grilled cheeses complete with bacon and tomato paste. Yum! The sun was setting as we were finishing up so we went out on the terrace to get some shots of the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains.

Next it was time for my massage. Ryan told me he was just going to catch up on some reading and hang out at the spa so I didn’t ask any questions. I took this silly selfie beforehand but little did I know what was to happen next…

    OMG, what a keeper! Love all the little surprises he had for you! And I desperately want to go relax at that spa now! The views there are ridiculously gorgeous. Can't wait to hear Part 2!!!! Oh and CONGRATS again!!! 🙂
